Japanese gov't changes rules to amend historical textbooks
The Japanese government has revised academic standards that will allow it to change historical facts in school textbooks.
The Ministry of Education is reported to have made the changes on Friday. This comes amid claims that the ruling Liberal Democratic Party considers as biased, the present references to the Nanjing Massacre of 1937 and the issue of World War Two sex slaves used by the Japanese Army.
Though some committee members of the Education Ministry criticised the planned revision of the textbooks, it had been approved last December. The revised standards will be used to decide from the coming spring, the manner in which the changes need to be made to the textbooks.
