Latinos are a growing minority in the US, and presidential candidates seek their support. The majority of Latino voters are concerned with the immigration reforms. They are especially concerned with the expulsion of undocumented immigrants, proposed by Republican candidate Donald Trump.

Eleven years ago Maya Ledezma illegally crossed the Mexican border into the U.S. state of Texas. She started a family. Her daughter Heather was born in Maryland.

Maya has become a fierce advocate for immigration reform.

With Republican frontrunner Donald Trump leading calls for the expulsion of undocumented immigrants, she's afraid for her family's future.

"He has fanatics on his side, and he is using that fanaticism against us, Latinos. He is a dangerous candidate, not only for us Latinos, but also for other ethnicities," Maya said.

Undocumented families say they're already being targeted by immigration officials.

At least four million children of undocumented immigrants have been born in the U.S. If their parents are expelled from the country, these kids will become wards of the state.

This situation scares Maya's daughter, Heather, who is eight years-old.

"I want to hide from the police... where they cannot take me to where they are... where all the kids are, alone," Heather said.

As the debate intensifies, protests are growing.

Undocumented immigrants have been demonstrating in support of president Obama's temporary executive actions, granting them immunity from deportation and the right to work in the U.S. for up to three years.

But both programs have been on hold since the White House announced them back in 2014. Their fate is now up to the U.S. Supreme Court.

about seven percent of all U.S. students - ranging from kindergarten through high school - have at least one undocumented parent. For these families, this year's presidential election is a turning point that could change their lives.
