Clashes erupted in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas on Sunday after a rally to mark 100 days of protests
against president Nicolas Maduro
's socialist government, which the opposition blames for political repression and eco
nomic misery.
Venezuelan National Guard troops fired tear gas at about 150 protesters who were throwing bottles and rocks and taking up positions behind makeshift shields. Many of the protests ended in clashes between masked youths and security forces.
Opposition leaders have been gaining support, galvanized by the surprise release of hardline leader Leopoldo Lopez.
Since the unrest began in Venezuela in April, more than 90 people have been killed with hundreds arrested and thousands injured.
