Thailand’s main opposition Democratic Party will meet on Saturday to decide whether it will run in the forthcoming election.
Earlier reports say the party remains divided over whether to take part. Some agree with their protest leader’s call for reforms to be implemented by a "people’s council". But others believe they should respect the democratic process and run for office.
Meanwhile, Thailand’s Election Commission says it is ready to stage the February the 2nd poll, a day after recommending Thailand’s upcoming election be postponed because of fears of further protest. Caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has refused to push back the date to allow the drawing up of political reforms demanded by the protesters. However, the protesters have vowed to disrupt the election and they have planned a mass demonstration for Sunday.
