In some regions, McDonald's also has allowed developmental licensing. Under this arrangement, a local licensee owns the business, including the real estate, and uses his or her own capital and local knowledge to optimize sales.
在部分地区，麦当劳还将开放发展式特许经营。在这种模式下，当地的许可证持有人不但拥有餐厅，而且还拥有餐厅所在地产，并能运用自己的资金和当地知识使销售最优化。
“发展式特许经营”就是developmental licensing，这是麦当劳未来的业务模式之一，其他两种业务模式分别是directly operated restaurants（直营餐厅）和traditional licensing（传统式特许经营）。
麦当劳方面表示，麦当劳依然会严加挑选licensee（许可证持有人），确保能维持高标准。通过放开特许经营，减轻麦当劳在零售方面的压力，麦当劳就能专心致力于building brand value and product quality（建设品牌价值，提高产品质量）。
