Fourteen workers were killed and five more injured Saturday in a chemical plant explosion in east China's Shandong Province, local authorities said.

The explosion occurred at about 2 pm at a melamine production facility of Shandong Liaherd Chemical industry Co., Ltd. in the city of Xintai when workers were maintaining and repairing a condenser, the Xintai city government said in a statement late Saturday.
周六下午新泰市政府在陈述中称，大约在下午两点，新泰市山东联合化工股份有限公司三聚氰胺生产设备发生爆炸，当时工人们正在给电容器做维护保养。
Four workers were killed and further 15 injured at the scene. But 10 injured died later at hospital after emergency medical treatment failed, raising the death toll to 14. The remaining five injured were in stable conditions, according to the statement.
4人当场死亡，15人受伤。但是在医院紧急治疗失败后，10名受伤人员去世，死亡总数上升至14人。其余5名伤者情况稳定。
An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
