It’s now 15 days since the South Korean ferry, the Sewol, capsized in waters off Jindo Island. The latest information from the government’s daily presser. The death toll stands at 210 and 92 others are still missing. A huge underwater search operation is continuing to try and locate them.
80 divers took part in the search on Tuesday, and more are joining on Wednesday, expanding the team to over 100. While more experts of different nationalities are also being mobilized. The focus on Wednesday is on 4th floor cabins and the lobby on the 5th floor of the ferry.
However, because of tides, the current is about 40 percent faster than normal in the area, presenting more difficulties for the searchers. Meanwhile, South Korean Prime Minister Chung Hong-won, who is set to resign over the tragedy, went to Jindo island on Tuesday to monitor the search and rescue operation.
