Thai Constitutional court has ruled the caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra guilty of the charges of abuse of power. She is ordered to step down from office.
Yingluck appeared at the Constitutional Court in Bangkok on Tuesday to defend herself. She is accused of abusing her authority by transferring a senior civil servant in 2011 to another position, allegedly for the benefit of herself or her Pheu Thai Party. A group of anti-government senators, who lodged the case, says the transfer benefited Yingluck’s ruling party and violated the constitution.
Analysts say anti-government protesters may not stop their demonstrations even if Yingluck resigns. Her forced resignation is likely to gather strong opposition from a group known as the red shirts, and incite another round of turmoil in the country.
