All-in-one card for regional public transport
An all-in-one card for regional public transport in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province has been put in place. This is the first step in the establishment of an integrated public transport system in the region.
The pilot project involves hundreds of bus lines in six cities: Beijing, Tianjin and four cities in Hebei Province. By 2017, residents in the region will be able to use a single transport card for all buses and subways.
This is seen as the start of the integrated transport design in the region, which is aimed at building a world-class, Beijing-centered mega-city cluster.
The one-card system across cities and different modes of transport is believed will improve transport efficiency for both people and freight.
