China adopts its first counter-terrorism law
China's National People's Congress Standing Committee has adopted the country's first counter-terrorism law. The legislation was approved Sunday afternoon with large majority at the end of a week-long bimonthly session.
One notable change in the text is an expanded definition of the term "terrorism." And a separate clause makes it a crime to fabricate and disseminate information on fabricated terrorist incidents, report on or disseminate details of terrorist activities that might lead to imitation, and publish scenes of cruelty and inhumanity in terrorist activities.

A number of other laws were passed during the session, including amendments to education laws to strengthen bilingual teaching among ethnic minorities and promote sound development of higher education.
