Olympic ring fail T-shirt就是近两天国内外购物网站上热卖的“故障五环T恤”，也有人称为“乌龙五环T恤”，因在索契奥运会开幕式上奥运五环中有一环没有打开（failed to open）而得名。这种意外出现的小故障英文里多用glitch表示，而上文中的gaffe则表示“失态、出丑”之意，如，He made an embarrassing gaffe at the convention last weekend.（他在上周末的会议上出了洋相。）
奥运五环（Olympic rings）是由皮埃尔•德•顾拜旦先生于1913年构思设计的，是由《奥林匹克宪章》（Olympic Charter）确定的，也被称为奥运五环标志，它是世界范围内最为人们广泛认知的奥林匹克运动会标志。它由5个奥林匹克环套接组成（five interlocking rings），由蓝、黄、黑、绿、红5种颜色，代表了参加现代奥林匹克运动会的五大洲——欧洲、亚洲、非洲、大洋洲和美洲。五环的含义是象征五大洲的团结（the union of the five regions of the world）以及全世界的运动员以公正、坦率的比赛和友好的精神在奥林匹克运动会上相见（the meeting of athletes from throughout the world at the Olympic Games with fair and square games and friendly spirit）。
