Yingluck vows to set up post-election reform council
Thai caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has offered to set-up a national reform council immediately after the country’s planned February 2nd election.
The Prime Minister noted that the council should consist of political party representatives, academics, businesspeople and government officials. Her comments come on the eve of a massive anti-government rally to demand Yingluck’s resignation.
Two to three million protesters are expected to turnout for Sunday’s demonstration, according to the anti-government People’s Democratic Reform Committee. But the prime minister has insisted that the election should be held as scheduled in order to maintain democratic rule, peace and order.
On Friday, the Thai Army Chief warned the country could risk descending into a civil war if the political unrest continues.
