All eyes were on Sarajevo on Saturday, for the one hundredth anniversary of the assassination of Austria's Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the event that triggered World War One.
Several special events were staged around the historic Bosnian city, drawing in plenty of history-loving tourists. Bosnia's different communities remain strongly divided on the status of Gavrilo Princip — the man who pulled the trigger — with some calling him a hero, and others calling him a terrorist.
If you want to get to know Sarajevo quickly, the Franz Ferdinand Hostel is the place to stay. The interior of the two-story building is draped in history, with large photos of historical figures, including the man himself, Austro-Hungarian Archduke Ferdinand and his wife Sophie.
